Frequently Asked Questions
The Canada Super Visa – is an extended, multi-entries visa for parents and grandparents of the citizens of Canada or permanent residents. Through it, they can live in Canada for up to five years per visit without having to apply for an extension of their stay. The validity of the visa is up to 10 years, so the chance for families to be reunited for a long time is rather good.
An applicant must be either a parent or grandparent to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to qualify. The child who is hosting the visitor must show they earn enough money (following income limits), write a financial support statement, and prove they cover the visitor's medical expenses. Potential visitors have to undergo health evaluations and show they're still close to their home country to prove they will leave Canada during their stay.
The key difference is the duration of stay. During ordinary visitor visas only let people stay for 6 months before leaving, Super Visas allow visitors to remain in Canada for up to 5 years on each trip. Also, when applying for a Super Visa, you need to provide insurance coverage and show you have money provided by the person who welcomes you in Canada.
Applicants need a valid passport, proof of relationship with their Canadian child or grandchild (e.g., birth certificate), an invitation letter from the host, proof of medical insurance with at least CAD $100,000 coverage for one year, financial documents from the host showing they meet income requirements, and results from an immigration medical exam.
The processing time varies by country but typically ranges from 4 to 6 months. The application fee is CAD $100 per person, with an additional CAD $85 biometrics fee if required. Applicants must also pay for medical exams (around CAD $200–$300) and mandatory health insurance (approximately CAD $1,660 annually).
