A majority of nurse packages will cover the housing or provide you with a housing allowance, health insurance, leave and sometimes a yearly flight home. There is no tax on the salary given and a gratuity at the end of the service after one year of employment.

To work as a nurse in Dubai you need a Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licence. A recognised nursing qualification, active Indian nursing registration, DataFlow verification and a pass in the DHA Prometric exam are required.

These are the steps taken by most Indian nurses.

• Check eligibility: Proceed to register on DHA Sheryan and verify your nurse category (Registered Nurse - BSc / Assistant Nurse - GNM).

• Register and receive your certificate: An active registration with Indian nursing council and a good standing certificate from Indian nursing council is required. Apply at the council early as they may be slow.

• Complete DataFlow verification: DataFlow validates your degree, registration and any experience letters directly with the source. The approximate price is AED 935 and typically will take around two weeks if your council is slow to respond.

• Pass the DHA Prometric exam: 150 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 165 minutes. The exam fee is approximately USD 240 - USD 280 and the exam can be taken at a Prometric centre in India. The third try is usually the charm, and requires some evidence of additional training.

• Get a job and activate your licence: Your sponsor/employer pays for the licence and sponsorship of your residence visa. There is only a Dubai DHA licence.

• Be sure to have these documents ready with you: Your passport, nursing degree and transcripts, Indian nursing council registration, Good Standing Certificate, experience letters (if applicable) and a recent photo. Act early: Delay is often due to nursing councils taking a long time to respond. 

Dubai Nurse Licensing Cost, Requirements and Common Mistakes

The total licensing cost is about AED 2,000 to AED 3,500, or roughly INR 52,000 to INR 91,000. It takes approximately three to six months if your documents are prepared, according to consultants.

Experience has shown that the rule has been reversed. The newly amended UAE regulations specify that the title of Registered Nurse requires a bachelor's degree, while some 2026 guides state that there is no minimum experience necessary. 

Many older pages, some employers still require two years. Please note that the current requirement for your category is available on the DHA Sheryan portal. In addition, some employers may require IELTS or OET, so verify this in the job ad.

Don't fall into these pitfalls. 

• Don't pay dataflow before you know your nurse category, as dataflow fees are difficult to recoup.

• Ensure that the name appears on the passport, degree and registration as it does on your name card.
