This IELTS Speaking Practice Test has 3 Sections. In Part 1, you will be asked questions for 4- 5 minutes about Sky And Start by your examiner. In Part 2, you will be given a cue card for a monologue of 2 minutes based on the topic Describe A Useful Thing That You Once Borrowed, followed by more in-depth questions for another 4-5 minutes based on the cue card in Part 3. Overall, the speaking test takes 15 minutes.

Sky and Stars

1. Do you like to watch the sky?

A. Yes, absolutely. My region in Spain, Andalusia, is famous for enjoying more than 300 sunny days a year. Because of that, one of the most relaxing things to do is lie on the beach during summer afternoons and gaze at the clear blue sky. In addition, the sunsets here are breathtaking, often filled with soft pink and orange shades like cotton candy. Since I live on the tenth floor of my building, I usually have a perfect view of the sunset.

2. Do you like to watch stars?

A. Definitely. I find it a very peaceful and romantic activity, so I often do it with my boyfriend. I also enjoy stargazing with my friends. We sometimes make it into a fun game by trying to spot different shapes among the stars and calling them out to each other.

3. What is the sky like at night in your hometown?

A. It is absolutely stunning. Since there is very little light pollution in my hometown, the stars are usually bright and easy to see. Sometimes I go to the beach at night with a blanket and admire the sparkling sky. It always fills me with wonder and reminds me of how vast and beautiful the universe is.

4. Have you ever taken a course about stars?

A. No, I have never formally studied astronomy because it was not offered at my school. However, I have always found the subject fascinating. Fortunately, my grandfather was very interested in astronomy, so he often shared his knowledge with me and even gave me an encyclopedia full of useful information.

5. What’s your favourite constellation?

A. I would say the constellation Orion, which can be seen clearly on winter nights. I find it fascinating because it contains a variety of features, including a huge red star that may explode one day, a young blue star, and even a nebula where new stars are formed. It is truly complex and magnificent.

Sample Answer

Like most people, I have borrowed many things in my life, either out of necessity or for convenience. One memorable occasion was when I borrowed a novel that I had been eager to read for quite some time. It was a newly released book, and I was extremely excited to get my hands on it.

I borrowed the novel from one of my close friends, who is also an enthusiastic reader. He knew that I had been looking forward to reading the book, but did not have enough money to buy it at the time. Since he had already purchased a copy, he kindly offered to lend it to me once he had finished reading it. I was delighted by his generosity and collected the book from him as soon as he was done.

I borrowed the book mainly for reading and enjoyment. During my high school years, I was a complete bookworm and spent most of my free time immersed in novels. The story was so captivating that I finished the first half within just two days. It was a wonderful experience, and I particularly enjoyed discussing each chapter with my friend as I progressed through the book.

The main reason I borrowed it was that I had already spent my monthly allowance and could not afford to purchase a new copy. Since I was so eager to read it, borrowing the novel was the ideal solution. Fortunately, my friend was more than happy to help. I completed the book within four days and returned it to him in excellent condition.

1. Why do people borrow things instead of buying them?

Secondly, certain things are only needed for a short period of time, such as books, tools, or special equipment. In such cases, buying them may not be practical. Borrowing can also strengthen relationships, as it often involves trust and cooperation between people.

2. What kinds of things do people usually borrow?

A. People commonly borrow everyday items such as books, pens, chargers, clothes, or kitchen tools. Students often borrow notes or stationery from classmates, while adults may borrow vehicles, money, or household appliances from friends or relatives. Nowadays, people also borrow digital resources like online accounts or e-books. It usually depends on the person’s needs and situation.

3. Do you think borrowing things is a good habit?

A. Yes, I believe borrowing can be a good habit if it is done responsibly. It can save money, reduce waste, and encourage people to share resources. For example, borrowing books from a library is both economical and environmentally friendly. However, people should return borrowed items on time and in good condition. If someone is careless, it may damage trust between people.

4. How has borrowing changed compared to the past?

A. Borrowing has changed a lot in recent years. In the past, people mainly borrowed items from neighbours, relatives, or close friends. Today, borrowing has become more organised through libraries, rental services, and online platforms. For example, people can now rent bicycles, cars, or even electronic devices through mobile apps. Technology has made borrowing more convenient and accessible.

5. Is it better to borrow from friends or from companies?

A. Both options have advantages. Borrowing from friends is usually free and more convenient, especially for small items. It can also reflect a close relationship. On the other hand, borrowing from companies may be more reliable because the terms are clear and professional. For expensive or valuable items, renting from a company may be safer and more practical.
