Key Highlights
This IELTS General Writing Test consists of 2 tasks. Task 1 is an Informal Letter, which you need to write in at least 150 words. Task 2 includes a Problem/Solution Essay topic, which you need to write in 250 words. You need 20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.
IELTS Writing Task 1
You recently moved to a new city, and your friend has asked you to describe your new home.
Write a letter to your friend.
In your letter:
- explain why you moved to the new city
- describe your new home
- invite your friend to visit you
Write at least 150 - 180 words in about 20 minutes.
IELTS Writing Task 2
Most countries believe that international tourism has harmful effects. What problems are caused by international tourism? What are the solutions to change negative attitudes? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.
