This IELTS Speaking Practice Test has 3 Sections. In Part 1, you will be asked questions by your examiner for 4-5 minutes about the topic of Yoga and Wellness. In Part 2, you will be given a cue card for a monologue of 2 minutes based on the topic Describe A Toy You Did Not Like, followed by more in-depth questions for another 4-5 minutes based on the cue card in Part 3. Overall, the speaking test takes 15 minutes.

Yoga And Wellness

Q1. Do you do yoga regularly?

A. Yes, I try to practise yoga several times a week. I usually do simple stretching exercises and breathing techniques in the morning before starting my day. My friend Ayaan introduced me to yoga during college, and since then, it has become part of my routine. I find it very refreshing and beneficial for both my body and mind.

Q2. Why do many people practise yoga nowadays?

A. I think yoga has become popular because it helps people reduce stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Modern life can be quite hectic, so many individuals look for activities that improve both physical and mental well-being. My aunt started practising yoga a few years ago and says it has greatly improved her flexibility and concentration. It is also suitable for people of different ages.

Q3. Do you think wellness is important?

A. Yes, absolutely. Good wellness is essential because it affects every aspect of life, including work, studies, and relationships. If people are physically and mentally healthy, they are generally more productive and happier. My father always emphasises the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle through proper sleep, exercise, and nutrition.

Q4. What do you do to stay healthy?

A. I try to maintain a healthy routine by exercising regularly, eating nutritious food, and getting enough sleep. I also drink plenty of water and avoid excessive junk food whenever possible. Recently, I started taking evening walks with my cousin Rehan, which has helped me stay active. I believe consistency is the key to maintaining good health.

Q5. Do young people care about wellness nowadays?

A. Yes, I think they do. Many young people are becoming more health-conscious and are paying attention to fitness, diet, and mental health. Social media has also increased awareness about healthy living. For example, several of my friends follow fitness channels and wellness podcasts to learn better habits. However, some young people still struggle to maintain a healthy balance due to busy schedules.

Q6. Would you like to learn more about yoga in the future?

A. Definitely. At the moment, I only know a few basic yoga poses, but I would like to learn more advanced techniques in the future. My neighbour attends professional yoga classes and often talks about the benefits of meditation and breathing exercises. I think learning more about yoga would help me improve my overall well-being and manage stress more effectively.

Sample Answer

I would like to talk about the time when I started practising yoga to improve my health and overall well-being. I began doing yoga about a year ago when I was feeling stressed because of my studies and a busy daily routine.

My aunt Farzana encouraged me to try it because she had been practising yoga for several years and often spoke about its benefits. At first, I was a bit sceptical because I thought yoga would be boring and difficult. However, she convinced me to join her morning sessions and learn some basic poses and breathing exercises.

Initially, I practised for only twenty to thirty minutes each day. I focused on simple stretching exercises, meditation, and breathing techniques. After a few weeks, I noticed several positive changes. I felt more energetic throughout the day, my concentration improved, and I was able to manage stress much more effectively. In addition, I started sleeping better and felt more relaxed overall.

The main reason this experience was important to me is that it taught me the value of maintaining both physical and mental health. Before that, I mainly focused on academic work and rarely paid attention to wellness. Yoga helped me develop healthier habits and a more balanced lifestyle.

Overall, starting yoga was one of the best decisions I have made for my health. It improved my fitness, reduced stress, and made me feel more positive and productive in everyday life.

Many individuals spend long hours studying or working, which can affect both physical and mental health. My friend Tania started focusing on wellness after experiencing burnout during her university exams. As a result, she began exercising regularly and paying more attention to her daily habits. People are gradually realising that good health is essential for a happy and productive life.

Q2. Do you think yoga is better than other forms of exercise?

A. I would not say it is better, but it offers different benefits. While activities like running or swimming mainly improve physical fitness, yoga focuses on both the body and the mind. My uncle practises yoga every morning because it helps him stay calm and flexible. I think the best choice depends on a person's goals, interests, and lifestyle. Ideally, people should combine yoga with other physical activities.

Q3. How can schools encourage students to live a healthy lifestyle?

A. Schools can encourage healthy living by promoting sports, physical education, and awareness programmes about nutrition and mental health. When I was in school, we had regular sports days and health workshops that motivated students to stay active. Schools can also teach students about the importance of sleep, exercise, and balanced diets. Developing healthy habits at a young age can have long-term benefits. I believe education plays a key role in shaping lifestyle choices.

Q4. Do you think mental health is as important as physical health?

A. Yes, absolutely. Mental health is just as important because it influences how people think, feel, and handle challenges. A person may be physically fit but still struggle if they experience stress or anxiety. My cousin Rehan once took a short break from work because he felt mentally exhausted, and it helped him recover. Both mental and physical health are closely connected and should be given equal attention.

Q5. What are the disadvantages of an unhealthy lifestyle?

A. An unhealthy lifestyle can lead to various problems such as obesity, fatigue, stress, and long-term illnesses. People who do not exercise regularly or eat nutritious food may experience lower energy levels and reduced productivity. I know someone who had to change his eating habits after developing health issues related to a poor diet. In addition, unhealthy lifestyles can negatively affect mental well-being and self-confidence. Prevention is often easier than treatment.

Q6. Do you think people will become healthier in the future?

A. I hope so. Nowadays, there is much greater awareness about fitness, nutrition, and mental health than in the past. Many people use fitness apps, attend wellness programmes, and follow healthier routines. However, modern technology also encourages sedentary lifestyles because people spend so much time sitting and using devices. Therefore, future health outcomes will depend on how effectively people balance convenience with healthy habits.
