IELTS Speaking Part 1
Processed Food
Q1. Do you often eat processed food?
A. Occasionally, yes. I sometimes eat processed food like instant noodles, frozen snacks, or packaged chips when I am too busy to cook. During exam periods, my friend Tuhin and I often rely on quick meals because they save time. However, I try not to consume them too frequently because I know they are not very healthy.
Q2. What kinds of processed food are popular in your country?
A. In India, packaged snacks, soft drinks, instant noodles, frozen foods, and ready-to-eat meals are extremely popular, especially among young people. My younger cousin Riya loves eating potato chips and chocolate-flavoured cereals after school. Fast-food chains have also increased the popularity of processed food in urban areas.
Q3. Why do many people prefer processed food nowadays?
A. I think convenience is the main reason. Modern lifestyles are very busy, so many people prefer food that is quick and easy to prepare. For example, my uncle often buys frozen parathas because he returns home late from work and has little time for cooking. Processed food is also widely available and sometimes quite affordable.
Q4. Do you think processed food is unhealthy?
A. In many cases, yes. A lot of processed food contains excessive sugar, salt, preservatives, and unhealthy fats, which can cause health problems if consumed regularly. My neighbour recently reduced eating fast food after his doctor warned him about weight gain and high cholesterol. I think eating processed food occasionally is fine, but moderation is important.
Q5. Did people eat less processed food in the past?
A. Yes, definitely. In the past, most families preferred freshly cooked homemade meals instead of packaged products. My grandmother often says that during her childhood, people rarely bought processed snacks because homemade food was considered healthier and more satisfying. Nowadays, processed food has become more common due to changing lifestyles and advertising.
Q6. Would you like to learn how to cook healthy food?
A. Yes, absolutely. I think cooking healthy meals is an important life skill. Recently, I started learning simple recipes from my mother, such as vegetable soup and grilled chicken. Preparing food at home not only feels healthier but also allows people to control the ingredients and nutrition more carefully.

Cue Card
Describe Your Favourite Junk Food
You should say:
-
What kind of junk food is it
-
When you usually eat it
-
Where do you usually buy it
-
And explain why it is your favourite junk food
Sample Answer
My favourite junk food is pizza, especially chicken cheese pizza from Domino’s. Although I know it is not very healthy, I really enjoy eating it occasionally because of its delicious taste and variety of toppings.
I usually eat pizza at weekends or while hanging out with my friends after exams or special occasions. Last month, my friends Aritra, Nabila and I ordered a large pizza while watching a football match at my house. We spent the entire evening chatting and enjoying the food together, which made the experience even more memorable.
I generally buy pizza from a Domino’s outlet near Salt Lake in Kolkata, although sometimes I order it online through food delivery apps. What I like most about pizza is the combination of melted cheese, spicy chicken toppings, and crispy crust. I also enjoy trying different flavours such as peri-peri chicken and stuffed cheese crust varieties.
The main reason pizza is my favourite junk food is that it feels comforting and satisfying. Whenever I eat it with friends or family, it creates a cheerful atmosphere and becomes part of a fun social experience. In addition, pizza is highly customizable, so people can choose toppings according to their preferences. Overall, even though I try to eat healthy food most of the time, pizza remains my favourite treat because of its amazing taste and enjoyable dining experience.

IELTS Speaking Part 3
Q1. Why do many people prefer processed food instead of healthy food?
A. I think convenience is the biggest reason. Processed food is quick to prepare and easily available, which suits busy lifestyles. For example, my cousin Arman often buys instant noodles after work because he feels too exhausted to cook. In contrast, healthy meals usually require more time and effort to prepare. Advertising and attractive packaging also influence people’s choices significantly.
Q2. Do you think healthy food is becoming more popular nowadays?
A. Yes, definitely. Nowadays, many people are becoming more health-conscious and paying attention to their eating habits. My friend Sneha recently switched from sugary drinks to fresh fruit juices after joining a fitness programme. Social media, fitness influencers, and awareness campaigns have encouraged people to choose healthier diets. However, processed food still remains extremely popular because of its convenience.
Q3. What problems can processed food cause?
A. Excessive consumption of processed food can lead to several health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Many processed products contain high levels of sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. My uncle recently reduced eating fast food after his doctor warned him about high cholesterol levels. I think long-term dependence on processed food can seriously affect people’s overall well-being.
Q4. Should schools teach children about healthy eating habits?
A. Absolutely. Schools should educate children about nutrition and balanced diets from an early age. When students understand the importance of healthy eating, they are more likely to develop good habits for the future. My school once organised a health awareness workshop where nutritionists explained the harmful effects of junk food. I believe practical education like this can make a real difference.
Q5. Is homemade food better than restaurant food?
A. In most cases, yes. Homemade food is generally healthier because people can control the ingredients, oil, and hygiene more carefully. My grandmother always prefers cooking fresh meals at home rather than ordering outside food. Restaurant food may taste better sometimes, but it often contains excessive spices, fats, and preservatives. Homemade meals also create stronger family connections since people often eat together.
Q6. How can governments encourage people to eat healthier food?
A. Governments can encourage healthy eating by running awareness campaigns, improving food labelling, and limiting unhealthy advertisements aimed at children. Some countries also impose higher taxes on sugary drinks to reduce consumption. In addition, schools and workplaces could provide healthier meal options. I think combining education with stricter regulations would be the most effective approach.
