This IELTS Speaking Practice Test has 3 Sections. In Part 1, you will be asked questions by your examiner for 4-5 minutes about the Part-Time Job. In Part 2, you will be given a cue card for a monologue of 2 minutes based on the topic Describe Someone Who Is Good At His/Her Job, followed by more in-depth questions for another 4-5 minutes based on the cue card in Part 3. Overall, the speaking test takes 15 minutes.

Part- Time Job

Q1. Have you ever had a part-time job?

A. Yes, I have. I once worked part-time as a shop assistant in a local clothing store during my college holidays. My main responsibilities included helping customers, arranging products on shelves, and handling basic payments. It was a valuable experience because I learned how to communicate with different kinds of people and manage my time effectively. It also gave me a sense of independence since I was able to earn my own money.

Q2. Why do many students do part-time jobs?

A. I believe many students take part-time jobs mainly to earn extra income and reduce the financial burden on their families. In addition, these jobs help them gain practical experience and develop important skills such as teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Some students also work part-time to become more independent and prepare themselves for future full-time employment.

Q3. What kind of part-time jobs are popular among young people in your country?

A. In my country, many young people prefer jobs such as private tutoring, working in restaurants, call centres, or retail shops. Online work has also become increasingly popular, especially freelancing, content writing, and social media management. These jobs are attractive because they often offer flexible working hours, which makes them suitable for students.

Q4. Do you think part-time jobs can affect students’ studies?

A. Yes, they can affect students’ studies in both positive and negative ways. On the positive side, part-time jobs can teach students discipline and time management, which may improve their academic performance. However, if students work too many hours, they may become tired and have less time for homework or revision. Therefore, it is important to maintain a healthy balance between work and study.

Q5. Would you like to have a part-time job in the future?

A. Yes, I would, especially if it is related to my field of study or personal interests. I think a relevant part-time job would allow me to gain useful experience while also earning money. For example, if I could work in an office or educational environment, it would help me build professional skills and increase my confidence.

Q6. Do you think all students should do part-time work?

A. Not necessarily. While part-time work can be beneficial for many students, it may not be suitable for everyone. Some students already have a heavy academic workload or family responsibilities, so adding a job could create unnecessary stress. I think it should be a personal choice based on an individual’s schedule, needs, and priorities.

Sample Answer

I would like to talk about my uncle, who is an excellent school teacher. He has been teaching mathematics at a secondary school for more than fifteen years, and he is highly respected by both students and colleagues.

I have known him since childhood because he is a close family member, and I often hear people praising his teaching methods. Sometimes I have also visited his school during special events, where I have had the chance to observe how students interact with him.

What makes him particularly good at his job is his ability to explain difficult concepts in a very simple and clear way. Many students find mathematics challenging, but he uses practical examples from daily life to make lessons more interesting and easier to understand. As a result, his students tend to perform well in exams and become more confident in the subject.

Another reason I admire him is his patience and dedication. He is always willing to stay after school to help the students who need extra help or answer their questions. Instead of becoming frustrated, he encourages them to keep trying and motivates them to improve.

Moreover, he has a friendly personality, so students feel comfortable asking for help. He manages to maintain discipline in the classroom while still creating a positive learning environment.

Overall, I believe my uncle is very good at his job because he is knowledgeable, hardworking, and genuinely cares about his students’ success. In my opinion, teachers like him play an important role in shaping the next generation.

Q1. What qualities make someone good at their job?

A. I believe several qualities are important for success at work. Firstly, a person should be knowledgeable and skilled in their field. Secondly, they need to be responsible and punctual so that tasks are completed on time. In addition, good communication skills are essential because most jobs require teamwork or interaction with customers. Finally, a positive attitude and willingness to learn can help people improve continuously.

Q2. Do you think hard work is more important than talent?

A. In my opinion, hard work is generally more important than natural talent. Talent may give someone a good start, but without consistent effort, it is difficult to achieve long-term success. On the other hand, hardworking people can develop their skills over time and often outperform naturally talented individuals who do not practise enough. Ideally, a combination of both is the best situation.

Q3. How can employers motivate their workers?

A. Employers can motivate workers in several ways. Offering fair salaries and bonuses is one obvious method, but money is not the only factor. Employees also appreciate recognition for their achievements, opportunities for promotion, and a healthy work environment. If workers feel respected and valued, they are usually more productive and loyal to the company.

Q4. Is it important for people to enjoy their jobs?

A. Yes, I think job satisfaction is extremely important. Since people spend a large part of their lives at work, enjoying their job can improve both mental health and overall happiness. People who like their work are often more motivated, creative, and efficient. However, not everyone has the chance to follow their passion, so practical factors such as salary and stability also matter.

Q5. Why do some people change jobs frequently?

A. There are many reasons for this. Some people change jobs to earn a higher salary or gain better career opportunities. Others may feel bored, stressed, or unappreciated in their current position. In modern society, younger generations are also more willing to explore different careers rather than stay in one company for life.

Q6. Do you think machines will replace many jobs in the future?

A. Yes, I believe automation will replace certain types of jobs, especially repetitive or manual work such as factory tasks or data entry. Machines can often work faster and more accurately than humans. However, jobs that require creativity, emotional intelligence, and complex decision-making, such as teaching or healthcare, will still need human workers for the foreseeable future.
