IELTS Speaking Part 1
Ice Cream
Q1. Do you like eating ice cream?
A. Yes, I really enjoy eating ice cream because it feels refreshing and indulgent at the same time. It’s a simple treat that instantly lifts my mood, especially on hot days.
Q2. How often do you eat ice cream?
A. I don’t eat it very frequently, maybe once or twice a month. I try to limit it because it’s quite sweet, but I still look forward to it as a special snack.
Q3. What is your favourite flavour of ice cream?
A. My favourite flavour is pistachio. I like it because it has a nutty taste that’s not overly sweet, and it feels a bit more sophisticated compared to common flavours like vanilla or chocolate.
Q4. Do you prefer eating ice cream in a cone or in a cup?
A. I prefer a cup because it’s less messy and easier to enjoy slowly. With a cone, it often melts too quickly and drips, which can be inconvenient.
Q5. Do you enjoy trying new or unusual ice cream flavours?
A. Yes, I do. I think experimenting with flavours makes the experience more exciting. For example, I once tried lavender ice cream, and although it was unusual, it had a surprisingly pleasant taste.
Q6. Is there a particular brand or shop you like for ice cream?
A. There’s a local shop near my home that makes handmade ice cream. I like it because the flavours taste fresh and natural compared to mass-produced brands.

Sample Answer
I’d like to talk about an ice cream that I really enjoyed eating a few months ago. It was pistachio-flavoured ice cream, which is one of my favourite flavours because it has a rich and slightly nutty taste. Unlike chocolate or vanilla, it feels more unique and less sugary.
I ate it at a small local ice cream shop near my home. This shop is quite popular in my area because they make fresh, handmade ice cream using natural ingredients. The atmosphere there was warm and welcoming, and it was a perfect place to relax.
I went there with one of my close friends on a hot summer evening. We had been walking around the market for quite a while, so we wanted something cold and refreshing. We both ordered different flavours, but I chose pistachio because I had heard it was their speciality.
I enjoyed it so much for several reasons. First of all, the texture was incredibly smooth and creamy. Secondly, the flavour was perfectly balanced—not too sweet, but rich and satisfying. On top of that, sharing the experience with my friend made it even more memorable because we were chatting and laughing the whole time. Overall, it was a simple but delightful experience that I still remember fondly.

Q2. Do you think people’s eating habits are changing nowadays?
A. Yes, definitely. Many people are becoming more health-conscious, so they try to eat balanced meals and avoid junk food. At the same time, busy lifestyles have made fast food and ready-made meals more common.
