IELTS Speaking Part 1

Wellness And Self-Improvement Culture

Q1. Are you interested in self-improvement?

A. Yes, I am. I believe that personal growth is an important part of life. I enjoy learning new skills, developing positive habits, and finding ways to become a better version of myself. Even small improvements can make a meaningful difference over time.

Q2. What do people do to improve themselves nowadays?

A. People use a variety of methods to improve themselves. Some focus on fitness and healthy eating, while others read self-help books, attend workshops, or take online courses. Many people also use productivity apps and wellness programmes to help them achieve their goals more effectively.

Q3. Do you think people pay more attention to wellness today?

A. Definitely. Compared to the past, there is much greater awareness of physical and mental health. Many people are making conscious efforts to exercise regularly, eat nutritious food, and manage stress. Social media has also played a role in promoting wellness-related content and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Q4. Have you ever tried a wellness trend?

A. Yes, I have. For example, I once tried daily meditation after hearing about its benefits for concentration and stress reduction. Although it took some time to get used to, I found it quite relaxing and beneficial. It helped me become more mindful and focused throughout the day.

Q5. Why do you think wellness culture has become so popular?

A. I think modern life can be quite stressful and fast-paced, so people are looking for ways to improve their well-being. In addition, information about health and personal development is now more accessible than ever before. As a result, many individuals are becoming more interested in self-care and self-improvement.

Q6. Do you think people can become too focused on self-improvement?

A. Yes, that is possible. While personal growth is generally positive, some people may place too much pressure on themselves to constantly improve. This can lead to unrealistic expectations or feelings of dissatisfaction. I think it is important to aim for progress while also appreciating one's current achievements and limitations.

  • Why did you decide to develop it

  • And explain how it has affected your life

Sample Answer

One habit that I developed to improve myself is keeping a daily journal.

I started this habit about a year ago when I realised that I often felt overwhelmed by my responsibilities and struggled to organise my thoughts. After reading several articles about personal development, I decided to give journaling a try.

At first, I spent only a few minutes each evening writing about my day, my goals, and the challenges I had faced. Over time, it became an important part of my routine. I began using my journal not only to record events but also to reflect on my experiences and identify areas where I could improve.

The main reason I adopted this habit was that I wanted to become more self-aware and organised. I felt that writing down my thoughts would help me understand my strengths and weaknesses more clearly. In addition, I hoped it would reduce stress by allowing me to express my feelings in a healthy way.

This habit has had a very positive impact on my life. It has improved my ability to plan ahead and make better decisions. It has also helped me track my progress towards personal goals, which has increased my motivation. Whenever I look back at previous journal entries, I can see how much I have grown over time.

Another benefit is that journaling encourages mindfulness. It allows me to slow down, reflect on my experiences, and appreciate small achievements that I might otherwise overlook. In today's fast-paced world, I think that kind of reflection is extremely valuable.

Overall, developing the habit of journaling has been one of the most effective forms of self-improvement for me. It has helped me become more focused, organised, and aware of my personal growth.

  • Journaling: The practice of regularly writing personal thoughts and experiences

  • Overwhelmed: Feeling unable to cope because of too many demands

  • Reflect: To think carefully about something

  • Self-aware: Having a good understanding of one's own character and feelings

  • Motivation: The reason or desire to do something

  • Mindfulness: Awareness of the present moment

  • Growth: Development or improvement over time

IELTS Speaking Part 3

Q1. Why are people becoming more interested in self-improvement nowadays?

A. I think people are becoming more interested in self-improvement because modern society is highly competitive. Many individuals want to enhance their skills, improve their health, and achieve their personal goals. In addition, social media exposes people to successful lifestyles and achievements, which often motivates them to work on themselves. As a result, self-improvement has become a common priority for many people.

Q2. Do you think self-improvement culture has more advantages or disadvantages?

A. Overall, I think it has more advantages. It encourages people to develop positive habits, learn new skills, and take better care of their physical and mental health. However, there can also be disadvantages if people become obsessed with constant improvement. In some cases, individuals may feel dissatisfied because they believe they are never doing enough. Therefore, balance is extremely important.

Q3. How has social media influenced wellness culture?

A. Social media has had a significant impact on wellness culture. It provides easy access to information about fitness, nutrition, mental health, and personal development. At the same time, it allows influencers to share wellness routines and lifestyle advice with large audiences. However, not all online content is reliable, so people need to evaluate information critically before following it.

Q4. Should schools teach self-improvement skills?

A. Yes, I believe they should. Schools already focus on academic subjects, but they could also teach skills such as time management, stress management, communication, and goal setting. These abilities are valuable throughout life and can help students become more confident and resilient. In my opinion, education should prepare people for both professional and personal success.

Q5. Why do some people become obsessed with self-improvement?

A. Some people may feel pressure to meet unrealistic standards set by society or social media. They constantly compare themselves with others and feel that they need to improve in every aspect of their lives. As a result, self-improvement can sometimes become a source of stress rather than personal growth. The desire for perfection is often a major contributing factor.

Q6. Do you think wellness and self-improvement culture will continue to grow in the future?

A. Yes, I do. As people become increasingly aware of mental health and overall well-being, interest in wellness is likely to continue growing. Technology may also play a larger role through fitness apps, online coaching, and personalised health programmes. However, I think future wellness trends will place greater emphasis on balance and sustainability rather than pursuing perfection. People are gradually realising that long-term well-being is more important than quick results.

Vocabulary

  • Obsessed: Excessively focused on something

  • Nutrition: The process of obtaining nourishment from food

  • Resilient: Able to recover quickly from difficulties

  • Perfection: The state of being completely free from faults

  • Personalised: Designed for a particular individual
