IELTS Speaking Part 1
Fictional Characters Influencing Real-Life Behaviour
Q1. Did you have a favourite fictional character when you were a child?
A. Yes, I did. When I was younger, I admired characters who were brave and determined, especially those who overcame difficulties despite facing challenges. I found them inspiring because they never gave up easily. As a child, I often imagined how they would react in certain situations and tried to adopt the same mindset. Looking back, I think they had a positive influence on my attitude.
Q2. Do fictional characters influence people's behaviour?
A. Yes, I believe they can influence people quite significantly. Many fictional characters embody qualities such as kindness, perseverance, and honesty, which people may try to imitate. This is especially true for children and teenagers, who are often more impressionable. In some cases, fictional characters can even shape people's values and aspirations.
Q3. Have you ever copied something from a fictional character?
A. I wouldn't say I copied them exactly, but I have certainly been inspired by them. For instance, after reading books or watching films featuring confident characters, I sometimes felt more motivated to face my own challenges. Their actions encouraged me to be more resilient and optimistic. So, the influence was more psychological than direct.
Q4. Why do people become attached to fictional characters?
A. I think people become attached to fictional characters because they often see parts of themselves in them. Some characters experience similar struggles, emotions, or ambitions, which makes them relatable. In addition, people spend a lot of time following their stories, so they develop an emotional connection. As a result, these characters can feel almost like real people.
Q5. Do you prefer realistic characters or extraordinary ones?
A. Personally, I prefer realistic characters. Although extraordinary characters can be entertaining, realistic ones often feel more authentic and relatable. Their experiences tend to reflect real-life situations, which makes their stories more meaningful. I also find it easier to learn valuable lessons from characters who face ordinary challenges.
Q6. Can fictional characters be better role models than real people?
A. In some situations, yes. Fictional characters are often designed to represent particular values or ideals, which can make them highly inspiring. Unlike real people, they don't usually have complicated public lives that might contradict their image. However, I think it's important to remember that fictional characters are not entirely realistic, so people should view them with a balanced perspective.

Sample Answer
I'd like to talk about a fictional character who had a surprisingly strong influence on me. The character is Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series.
I first came across her when I started reading the books a few years ago. At first, I thought she was simply an intelligent student, but as the story progressed, I realised that she possessed many admirable qualities. She was not only knowledgeable but also courageous, loyal, and hardworking. Even in difficult situations, she remained calm and relied on logic rather than emotion.
What impressed me most was her dedication to learning. She consistently worked hard to achieve her goals and never depended solely on natural talent. Instead, she believed in preparation and persistence. I think this is one of the reasons why she became such a successful and respected character in the story.
This character influenced me by changing the way I view hard work. In the past, I sometimes believed that success depended mainly on intelligence. However, Hermione taught me that discipline and consistent effort are equally important. Whenever I feel unmotivated, I remind myself that progress often comes from determination rather than talent alone. Although she is a fictional character, the lessons I learned from her have had a real impact on my life.

IELTS Speaking Part 3
Q1. Why do people admire fictional characters?
A. I think people admire fictional characters because they often represent qualities that people aspire to have in real life. For example, they may be brave, intelligent, or compassionate, which makes them inspiring. In addition, fictional characters frequently overcome significant obstacles, and watching their journey can motivate people to face their own challenges. Sometimes, these characters become symbols of hope and perseverance.
Q2. Can fictional characters influence people's behaviour?
A. Yes, I believe they can have a considerable influence, especially on young people. When individuals admire a character, they may unconsciously imitate their habits, attitudes, or way of thinking. For instance, a character who values honesty and hard work might encourage viewers to adopt similar principles. However, the extent of the influence usually depends on the person's age and personality.
Q3. Why are children more easily influenced by fictional characters than adults?
A. Children are generally more impressionable because they are still developing their understanding of the world. They often view fictional characters as role models and may struggle to distinguish fantasy from reality. Furthermore, children tend to spend a lot of time watching cartoons, films, or reading stories, which strengthens their emotional attachment. Adults, on the other hand, are usually more critical and selective about who they admire.
Q4. Do you think fictional characters can sometimes have a negative influence?
A. Yes, that is certainly possible. Some characters display aggressive, irresponsible, or unrealistic behaviour, which may be copied by impressionable audiences. In certain cases, people may develop unrealistic expectations about success, relationships, or life in general. That being said, most people are capable of distinguishing entertainment from reality. Therefore, the influence is not always harmful, but it should not be ignored either.
Q5. Are fictional characters becoming more influential than real-life role models?
A. In some ways, yes. Due to movies, television series, video games, and social media, fictional characters are more visible than ever before. People are constantly exposed to their stories and personalities, which can make them highly memorable. However, I still believe that real-life role models, such as teachers, parents, and community leaders, have a deeper and more lasting impact because people can interact with them directly.
Q6. What makes a good role model?
A. In my opinion, a good role model should possess qualities such as integrity, responsibility, and resilience. They should not only achieve success but also demonstrate positive values through their actions. Moreover, a good role model should inspire others to improve themselves rather than simply impress them. I think people are more likely to respect someone who is genuine and consistent than someone who is merely talented.
