IELTS Speaking Part 1
Shoes
Q1. Do you like buying shoes?
A. Yes, I do, but I usually buy shoes only when I actually need them rather than frequently. I prefer simple and comfortable footwear because I walk a lot in daily life, especially when travelling around busy areas like Park Street and New Town in Kolkata. For me, comfort is more important than style, although I also like it when shoes look neat and modern. I usually check how soft the sole is and whether the shoes are suitable for long walking before buying them.
Q2. What types of shoes do you usually wear?
A. I usually wear sneakers or casual shoes on a daily basis because they are comfortable and suitable for long hours of walking. When I attend formal events or family functions, I wear formal shoes to match the dress code. In summer, I sometimes prefer sandals because they feel more breathable in hot weather. I also choose shoes depending on the weather, since rainy seasons require more durable and water-resistant footwear.
Q3. Have you ever bought expensive shoes?
A. Not really. I usually prefer affordable brands because I think expensive shoes are not always necessary for daily use. However, I once bought a slightly costly pair of sneakers from a store near Park Street, and I used them for travelling and walking during trips to places like Eco Park. They were very comfortable and long-lasting, but I still think spending too much on shoes is not always practical unless there is a special occasion.
Q4. Do you think shoes are important?
A. Yes, definitely. Shoes are very important because they protect our feet and provide comfort while walking or running. Good-quality shoes can also prevent foot pain and injuries, especially for people who travel long distances or stand for many hours. Apart from that, shoes also reflect a person’s style and personality to some extent. I also think wearing proper footwear can improve confidence in social situations.
Q5. How often do you buy new shoes?
A. I usually buy new shoes once or twice a year, depending on necessity. I try to use my existing shoes for as long as possible unless they get damaged or uncomfortable. I believe it is better to focus on durability and comfort rather than frequently changing footwear for fashion reasons. Sometimes I also wait for sales or discounts before purchasing new shoes, especially from popular stores in shopping malls like South City Mall or Quest Mall.

Sample Answer
One of my favourite pairs of shoes is a simple pair of black sneakers that I bought about a year ago from a sports store on Park Street. I remember choosing them very carefully because I wanted something that would be both comfortable for daily use and durable enough for long walks. At that time, I was mainly looking for shoes that I could wear while travelling around the city as well as during casual outings with friends.
I wear these shoes quite often, almost every week. I usually put them on when I go for long walks, visit places like Eco Park or South City Mall, or even when I have casual meet-ups with my friends. They have become my go-to footwear because they match most of my outfits and are suitable for different situations.
What I like most about these shoes is their comfort. The sole is very soft, which makes walking long distances much easier without feeling tired. They are also quite lightweight, so I don’t feel any strain even after wearing them for several hours. Another reason I like them is their simple design, which looks neat and modern without being too flashy.
Overall, these shoes are my favourite because they combine comfort, durability, and style in a very balanced way, and they have been really useful in my daily life.

IELTS Speaking Part 3
Q1. Why do some people prefer expensive branded shoes?
A. I think many people prefer expensive branded shoes because they are often associated with better quality, comfort, and social status. Popular brands like Nike or Adidas are also heavily promoted by celebrities and athletes, which makes them more attractive to young consumers. In addition, some people believe branded shoes are more durable and fashionable than cheaper alternatives.
Q2. Do you think expensive shoes are always better than cheap shoes?
A. Not necessarily. Although expensive shoes may sometimes offer better materials and comfort, cheaper shoes can also be practical and reliable for daily use. I think it mainly depends on the quality rather than the brand name. Some people spend large amounts of money mainly for fashion or status, even when affordable shoes could serve the same purpose.
Q3. Why are branded products so popular among young people?
A. In my opinion, social media and advertising play a major role in this trend. Many young people follow influencers and celebrities who frequently promote branded fashion products online. As a result, wearing expensive brands is often seen as fashionable or prestigious. Peer pressure can also influence teenagers to buy products simply to fit in with friends.
Q4. Should people spend a lot of money on fashion items like shoes?
A. I think it depends on a person’s financial situation and priorities. If someone can comfortably afford expensive shoes and genuinely values fashion, then it is their personal choice. However, spending excessive amounts of money only to impress others may not be very sensible, especially when there are more important needs to consider.
Q5. How do shoes reflect a person’s personality?
A. Shoes can reveal quite a lot about a person’s lifestyle and preferences. For example, people who wear clean and formal shoes may appear professional and organised, while those who prefer colourful sneakers might seem more relaxed and energetic. Although personality cannot be judged entirely by footwear, shoes often create a first impression in social situations.
